About BINI

Eight Names From a Talent School

BINI began inside a training academy, just like many modern P-pop dreams do. In 2019, ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy gathered a batch of young hopefuls and put them through a blend of Korean-style idol drilling and homegrown Filipino artistry, with long days of vocal work, choreography, and camera training.

Out of that process came eight members: Aiah, Jhoanna, Maloi, Colet, Gwen, Mikha, Stacey, and Sheena. They came from different corners of the country and spoke different first languages, from Tagalog to Bicolano, Ilocano, and Bisaya, which later fed the group’s love of writing in multiple Philippine tongues.

The group took its name from “binibini,” the Filipino word for a young lady, and framed it as a tribute to the modern Filipina. They debuted on June 11, 2021 with the single “Born to Win,” an anthem that doubled as a mission statement.

Like a lot of acts launched into a pandemic, BINI started slow. Their earliest performances happened on screens rather than stages, and mainstream stardom did not arrive overnight. What they built first was a foundation: a tight vocal blend, sharp group choreography, and a warmth that made fans feel like friends.

The Summer That Changed Everything

The turning point was tropical. In late 2023 the group released “Pantropiko,” a breezy tropical-house single that detonated on TikTok and radio through the first half of 2024. The dance challenge went everywhere, and the song became the unavoidable Filipino summer anthem of the year.

“Pantropiko” was not a lone spark. It sat inside a run of hits from the EP Talaarawan, released on International Women’s Day in March 2024, alongside the graduation favorite “Karera” and the funky, self-love bop “Salamin, Salamin.” Later that summer, “Cherry on Top” gave them another chart-topping earworm.

The streaming numbers turned historic. In June 2024, BINI became the first Filipino act to top Spotify Philippines’ Daily Top Artists chart, briefly overtaking global superstars, and they debuted on Spotify’s global Top Artists chart, a first for a Filipino artist. By March 2025 the group had crossed one billion all-time streams on Spotify.

Around the same stretch, the press settled on a nickname that stuck: the Nation’s Girl Group.

Filling Arenas, Then the World

BINI turned their streaming momentum into a live-show juggernaut. The Biniverse Tour began in mid-2024 and grew into the three-night Grand Biniverse at the Araneta Coliseum that November.

In February 2025 they staged Grand Biniverse: The Valentine Repeat at the Philippine Arena, becoming the first Filipino act to headline the 55,000-seat venue and sell it out. From there the Biniverse World Tour carried them to Dubai, London, Canada, and the United States.

International milestones piled up quickly. In 2024 they became the first Filipino pop act at KCON in Los Angeles and the first Filipino act to win Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Billboard Philippines named them Women of the Year for 2025, and Forbes included them in its Asia 30 Under 30.

The crowning moment came in April 2026, when BINI became the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella. Fans branded the set “BINIchella,” and it drew emotional shout-outs from Filipino icons back home, including their friends and fellow P-pop trailblazers SB19.

The Sound and the Sisterhood

Musically, BINI refuse to sit still. Their catalog moves from bubblegum pop to funk, EDM, R&B, and pop-rock, and they fold in Filipino languages and cultural touches that keep the music rooted even as the audience goes global.

The 2025 album Flames and the EPs Biniverse and Signals pushed them into bolder, more grown-up territory, including their first largely English record. New singles like “Blink Twice,” “Shagidi,” and the Coachella-timed “Blush” showed a group widening its range without losing its bounce.

What has never changed is the sisterhood at the center of it. Eight distinct personalities, one shared origin story, and a fanbase called Blooms who treat every milestone as their own. That mix of talent and togetherness is exactly why the country adopted them as its girl group.

Perspective

There is a particular joy in watching a group the whole country decided to root for. BINI songs feel like a summer that refuses to end: sunlit, danceable, and impossible to hear without smiling. Underneath the sparkle, though, is a serious pop machine, eight voices and eight sets of feet that hit every mark, carrying Filipino pop onto stages the genre had never reached before.

• Before BINI, some members already had a taste of showbiz: Gwen and Sheena appeared on Pinoy Big Brother: Otso, Jhoanna was an extra on the teleserye Kadenang Ginto, and Aiah once eyed an audition for the 2022 Darna series.
• Jhoanna is one of the youngest in the group, yet she was picked as leader, in part for her strong command of Filipino.
• The members proudly write and sing in several Philippine languages. “B Hu U R” weaves together Filipino, Ilocano, and Aklanon.
• All eight members are self-confessed foodies, a running theme in their variety content and their travel series with the Department of Tourism.
