About PLAYERTWO
From Davao, Almost by Accident
PLAYERTWO began in Davao City as a two-man project between rappers and producers Ivo Impreso and Luke April. What started as a plan to record a couple of songs together quickly turned into something bigger once the chemistry clicked.
Wave P joined the fold after linking up with the pair in the studio, and the trio of producer-rappers soon expanded to five. Puhken and Ven Villariza came up through Davao’s art and hip-hop collectives and stepped in as the group’s creative directors, shaping the visuals and identity.
The “happy accident” framing is not just a tagline. As Ivo has put it, they were never supposed to become a group at all, and even their first album came together from songs they were writing separately. That loose, no-pressure spirit became the crew’s signature.
Their early come-up was pure do-it-yourself. The members shot promo clips on borrowed gear and iPhones, leaning on social media to get their music heard, before Warner Music Philippines signed them.
The Breakout: “THAT’S MY BABY”
The turning point arrived in 2022 with “THAT’S MY BABY,” a breezy, ’90s-R&B-flavored love song wrapped in a comedic music video. The track blew up on TikTok and became the group’s calling card, later racking up tens of millions of Spotify streams.
The momentum carried them onto Spotify’s RADAR Philippines roster in 2023, a program that spotlights rising local acts for a global audience. For five kids out of Davao, the recognition felt surreal.
In August 2023 they released their debut album “Happy Accidents Vol. 1,” then took it on the road with a months-long tour across the Philippines. They also made an early international appearance at gamescom asia in Singapore, carrying their scrappy Davao sound abroad.
A Genre-Blending Sound
PLAYERTWO describe their music as alternative hip-hop, but the sound stretches well past straight rap. Rock, indie, R&B, pop, and trap all filter into the mix, held together by the group’s playful, feel-good energy.
Their influences read like a modern rap syllabus. The members point to Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar, along with the American collective BROCKHAMPTON, whose group-as-a-crew model clearly resonates.
The lineup works like a small studio. Ivo, Luke, and Wave P handle the rapping and production, while Puhken and Ven drive the creative direction, so the visuals and the music grow up together rather than as an afterthought.
High-Profile Collaborations and “Vol. 2”
By 2024 the group was collaborating well beyond Davao. They teamed up with FELIP of SB19 on “FLYYY” and “Pagdali,” and joined P-pop juggernaut BINI on the anthemic “Bata, Kaya Mo!”
In November 2025 they returned with their sophomore album “Happy Accidents Vol. 2,” a bolder, harder-hitting record that traded some of the early goofiness for reflection and growth. They celebrated with an immersive launch party in Pasig, where FELIP made a surprise appearance.
The deluxe edition then paired them with Muntinlupa funk-pop band Lola Amour on “In The Morning” and “Take It To The Roof,” their first official studio collaboration after sharing a stage back in 2024. From viral underdogs to a fixture on OPM bills, PLAYERTWO have leveled up without losing the fun.
